[Retirement grant is paid to a member who has reached the retirement age but has not made the minimum contribution period of 180 months. Those who cannot make up the minimum contributory period can make up for the shortfall in the number of years by purchasing credits based on the number of years needed to make the minimum qualifying period. [For a member to qualify for an invalidity Pension, the following conditions must be met:
a) You must have contributed for a minimum period of 60 months (5 years) b) You must have been declared permanently and totally incapable of further employment by a qualified and recognized medical Officer and certified by the Medical Board]

[A survivor/dependant shall receive pension during the following periods of time:
a) The spouse or spouses shall receive 40% of the deceased's pension (distributed equally) until death or until cohabitation or remarriage. b) The child/children shall receive 60% of the deceased's pension until 18 years, if not in formal education or 23 years, if in formal education. c) An invalid dependant child shall receive the pension until death, or according to the Act governing the Scheme, he is no longer invalid]
What are the qualifying conditions for a Survivors' Grant...? [This is a lump sum paid to survivors when the deceased member did not meet the qualifying conditions for the payment of a pension. The deceased member must have contributed for at least twelve months before death] How long will dependant children enjoy the survivors' benefit..? [The dependant children will enjoy survivors' until they are 18 years if not in formal education or 23 years if they are in formal educational establishments . [In such a situation, twelve months pension will be given to a surviving parent if he/she is working or on a pension. Twenty-four months pension will given to the deceased's surviving parent that is not working or not on pension] What determines the size of benefit..? [The size of the benefit NASSIT pays a beneficiary is contingent on two factors: the amount of contributions paid, and the length of time contributions are paid] [Yes. [No. The scheme is an autonomous body established by an Act of Parliament. Act No. 5 of 2001. The governing body is a tripartite Board of Trustees comprising representatives from government, employers and employees. The composition of the Board of Trustees will certainly not allow any undue interference by government] What happens if I lose my Social Security Card...?
[ If you lose your Social Security card, report to the nearest NASSIT Area Office with a police report on the loss of the card. You will complete a Members Update (SS1C) form after the payment of a fee of two thousand leones (Le2,000). This fee will however be reviewed from time to time.]
